My days of 35mm photography seemed so simple. Now, with digital, it's hue, saturation, luminosity, curves, levels, histograms...who knew making a picture could be so complicated. I was looking for art, I got science.
So, what does this have to do with the photo to the left? Experimenting with the double exposure feature on my Nikon F3, I produced a washed out photo. I wondered, with Photoshop, was it fixable? After looking at a lot of tutorials on fixing color, tone, highlights, shadows, overexposure, underexposure, I realized I needed to start at the beginning. And that place seemed to be the Histogram. I found many lessons. The tutorial I've included here (click on the button above) is a very basic one on understanding how to read a histogram. This is the beginning. Onward to levels and curves. |
