Last quarter I created a Northern Ireland website for a web development class. I designed this banner with that site in mind. I overlaid the Union Jack on the partitioned six counties which remain under British rule. Helicopters, barbed wire and fortified police station are brushes I made from photos I took while there. Click on the map of Ireland to view an enlarged version.

The Gaelic word for freedom, Saoirse, pronounced 'Seer-shay'. The colors are from the Irish Tricolor, green, white and orange (or gold). The letters are composed of images from Celtic crosses. The doves are a traditional symbol representing the ten who died on hunger strike in 1981, Bobby Sands being the most well known. Overlaid on the large ring, top left to right, are images of 'Tiocfaidh Ar La' graffiti (gaelic for 'Our day will come'), Loyalist and Republican paramilitaries, 'Bloody Sunday' mural, British Union flag, hunger striker Raymond McCartney, section of mural from Derry ('Every Republican or otherwise has their own particular role to play'), King William of Orange on his horse, and crowd faces. The tiny face on the dot over the letter 'i' is east Tyrone hunger striker Martin Hurson.
