WEEK 3: History Project.
Warhol intrinsically understood how to translate his understanding of pop culture. His declaration of everyone's 15 minutes of fame is one of the most accurate prophesies ever. Decades before Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, he
was documenting his daily life with thousands of photographs. He embraced the new technology of the day, his Polaroid SX-70 Big Shot a constant companion, and the Photo Booth, his chosen method for self-proclaimed 'superstar' portraits. These pre-saged popular features of current digital technology, instant results and mass accessibility.

With the rise of television and advertising, popular culture became a subject, allowing ubiquitous items such as soup cans, cigarette packs and celebrities to become part of the artistic lexicon. Pop Art emerged as a new form, with Warhol christened the 'Pope of Pop'. He simplified his artwork of cartoons and advertisements to just the icon itself, developing a distinctive style of bold color, and repeating images mimicking his photo booth strips. Eventually he worked to remove the hand work in his art, using projections of slides for his paintings. It would have been a natural evolution for Warhol to be a pioneer in the use of digital photography.
